- go get the big book on how to fix your old ford truck
- first off purchase spark plugs...spark plug wires..distributor cap...distributor rotor and points and condensor. With a spark plug gapper gap all the plugs at .035. Remove the old distributor cap...rotor and points and condensor. Replace the points and condensor and with a feeler guage set the points at .028. Do this with the points in the open position on the distributor cam lobe. Then put the condenser and the rotor on. replace the cap. When you pull the old cap off...leave the wires on it so you get them back on in the correct order. Lastly replace the spark plugs and then one at a time replace the plug wires . This should do it for you.
- Minor tune up. Change spark plugs, gap at 0.35, change dist. points and condenser. Point gap, when open is suppose to be at 0.17. Other kinds of tune up include plug wires, fuel filter, and air filter.
- If your new at this stuff , the best advise I can give you is to do one step at a time and then start the motor after each step to make sure you did it right . If you change a bunch of parts and then it runs like crap you wont know which part is at fault . If you change the spark plugs and it runs the same or better , then go to the next step . If it runs worse , then check out that part to see what you did wrong. If you do it ALL AT ONCE and it doesn't start it could be the points are gaped wrong , the spark plug gaps are wrong , the rotor is not making a complete circuit , a defective part ,or any number of wierd things.
- if you need the answer and tips, you pry should not be rebuilding anything, there is alot to it... such as diff specs that you need to deal with i would not do it yourself
- Take it to your local dealer and let them take care of it for you.
